The best accommodation in Mayrhofen

Advice

When deciding on accommodation in Mayrhofen, the centre of the resort near the Penken gondola is handy for most of the liveliest bars – although this can be a noisy choice. Away from the resort’s central hub, in the quieter streets, there’s still a great choice of hotels though the trade off is often being further away from the main Penken lift.

The Siegelerhof

A bed-and-breakfast hotel with character oozing from every timber, the Siegelerhof is one of Mayrhofen’s oldest buildings, and although it’s in the centre of the village, the location is particularly peaceful, set in its own gardens. It’s also a bargain – not luxurious, but with every comfort – and every bedroom has access to the all-round balcony.

Sport & Spa Hotel Strass

Very popular in Mayrhofen, particularly for families, the Sport & Spa Hotel Strass is in fact two four-star hotels joined together, run by the Roscher family. The two hotels are huge and rambling, so it takes some time to get your bearings, and the bar would be at home in an airport. It all feels a bit quirky to start with but the longer the stay the more it feels pleasantly eccentric. The position is perfect, next to the Penken gondola station; it’s lively though, and can be very noisy.

Hotel Elisabeth

If funds allow, the best of both worlds is available at the Hotel Elisabeth, a short walk from the centre of Mayrhofen and the resort’s only five-star hotel. Like an oversized chalet, with timbered balconies, it is the classiest and most comfortable billet in town, providing luxury in almost rural surroundings, while having the top bars just five minutes away. The food is great too.
