Southwest Montana welcomes its first luxury resort to the destination with the opening of Montage Big Sky located in Big Sky, less than an hour from Yellowstone National Park. Surrounded by vast wilderness, the resort is set on 3,530 acres and epitomizes today’s sense of luxury with its distinctive amenities and beautiful style. Its idyllic location affords guests year-round adventures from ski-in/ski-out access, three world-class Blue Ribbon fly-fishing rivers, a private 18-hole golf course, Spa Montage Big Sky, mountain-inspired dining at six dining venues and more.

With architecture by Hart Howerton and interiors by Brayton Hughes Design Studios, the resort’s palette is a contemporary take on the classic North American lodge. Modern elements are seen throughout like the regional woods and stones which present an elegant expression of the American West. It will feature 139 artfully designed guestrooms, suites and residences with rustic hues and a neutral palette accented by pops of color in small details. The collection of 39 Montage Residences range in size from two to six bedrooms and have elevated offerings such as state-of-the-art kitchens and fireplaces.

“We are extremely proud to debut Montage Big Sky, which brings a first-of-its-kind resort experience to the Rocky Mountains of Montana, with striking design, extraordinary culinary offerings and incredible access to year-round adventure,” said Alan J. Fuerstman, Founder, Chairman and CEO, Montage International. “Combined with the personalized and gracious service that has become a hallmark of Montage Hotels & Resorts, we look forward to welcoming guests and the local community to enjoy the magic of the American West and relax in one of the most inspiring destinations in the world.

Like Montana itself, options are expansive and range from warm to cold season activities for all ages. For the snow bunnies, guests will have ski-in/ski-out access to Big Sky Resort’s 5,850 skiable acres and Powder Park – a one-of-a-kind recreation space featuring a 450-foot tubing hill, snow play, as well as a designated area for less experienced skiers and snowboarders looking to hone their skills prior to hitting the slopes – and can participate in excursions that include snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, dog sledding, ice skating and more. In the warmer months, guests will have direct access to Spanish Peaks Mountain Club’s 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course and can opt for guided tours of Yellowstone National Park, mountain biking, hiking and world-renowned fly-fishing.

For families, the resort offers an immersive children’s program Paintbox, which inspires children with elevated versions of locally inspired indoor and outdoor pursuits. From Camp Thunderbird where children hone in on their arts and crafts and learn outdoor skills to the Olympics, where obstacle courses and outdoor games thrill and excite, there truly is something for all ages in big Sky Country. Programming and equipment are available through the resort’s recreation outfitter, Compass Sports, who assist guests with all their equipment needs.

In an alpine-inspired space with design touches such as surfaces appearing as rocks that have been abstracted and sliced from boulders, millwork that mimics the angles of snowy mountaintops, Spa Montage Big Sky is a destination that embraces wellness. The 10,000-square-foot spa features 12 treatment rooms (which include two couples’ treatment rooms), a full-service salon, as well as an indoor lap pool, his and hers relaxation areas, heated plunge pools and steam rooms. Spa-goers can choose from one-of-a-kind services such as the Peak Performance Recovery and CBD Mountain Ritual as well as have access to their state-of-the-art fitness center and Yoga Lawn with a backdrop of the Spanish Peaks and Lone Mountains.

Its six dining venues offer a bounty of culinary and beverage offerings, each paying homage to the rich agricultural heritage and wild bounty of Montana. The resort’s signature dining experience is Cortina, which provides an inviting setting with cuisine that represents rustic Northern Italian infused with local flair. Named for the vibrant pink-hued sunsets that light up the local mountains at sunset, Alpenglow is a comfortable space with glowing fireplaces, perfect for bites paired with local brews and expertly handcrafted cocktails.

Those looking for classic pub fare such as wood-fired pizzas and decadent desserts can head to Beartooth Pub & Rec for delectable bites alongside amusements from bowling to darts and vintage arcade games. The Living Room is a social hub sitting in the heart of the lobby, whose cozy vibe invites guests for Montana-inspired bourbon high tea service, and classic tabletop games to play with friends and family. For takeaway meals or custom picnic baskets, Wildflower Market features local artisan goods, while their house-made ice cream is a must-try. Lastly, Backcast Bar & Grille is scheduled to open in Summer 2022 and will offer open-air dining to showcase classic barbecue and smokehouse cooking at its finest.

The luxury resort is now open to offer guests a majestic mountain getaway. One where adventure and ruggedness meet beauty and luxury in the heart of Montana’s Big Sky Country.
