The crossroads of the world is getting a little more British.
As of Sunday, December 11, a new venue for pub fare, Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips, is open in Times Square at 1500 Broadway. It’s currently the multi-Michelin-starred chef and television personality’s only New York City restaurant and perhaps the future neighbor of the proposed Times Square casino.
Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips’ New York City outpost is the brand’s fourth location nationwide, following Washington D.C., Las Vegas and Orlando openings. The fast casual eatery welcomes guests via a red London phone booth door and offers a traditional take on the legendary pub classic, plus playful and creative variations of the namesake dish.
To eat, diners can enjoy crispy cod, shrimp or chicken, served with British chips (AKA French fries) and a variety of sauces. Chips are naturally salted, or served “dirty” with chipotle, jalapeño and chorizo; truffle, parmesan, and chives; or bacon, cheddar, green onions, and sour cream. An array of savory sauces include Gordon’s signature tartar, curry and mango, dijon mayonnaise, sriracha aioli, southwest ranch and cocktail.
Playful interpretations on the classic fish and chips basket include the “fishwich” – a battered serving of cod, wrapped in warm naan and topped with fresh avocado, shredded cabbage, and tangy tomato relish; and the “chickenwich,” featuring a crispy chicken tender, also served with warm naan, as well as cabbage slaw, Roma tomatoes, housemade pickles, and drizzled with Old Bay dressing.
For those looking for sweets, Chef Ramsay’s dessert menu evokes nostalgia with milkshakes in thematic British flavors including sticky toffee and biscoff. Sweet tea and lemonade are also offered.
“New York City is one of the greatest cities in the world, the energy is unmatched, and I’m thrilled to be bringing Fish & Chips here,” said Chef Ramsay. “Fish & Chips is a taste of home to me, and we’ve found a way to elevate that classic dish, dress it up and really modernize the experience for diners.”
The restaurant’s interiors bring a bold interpretation of the quintessential “chippy,” with pops of red and blue throughout, and plenty of Union Jack details, should you forget the eatery’s British origins. An intimate 35-seat dining space is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, offering views of Times Square (without the sounds or smells of nearby Broadway).
Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips is open Sunday – Thursday 11am-10pm and Friday and Saturday 11am-11pm. Takeout is available.
