During the summer, the luxurious Fairmont Grand Del Mar golf resort and spa in San Diego offers Summer Social activations and Fourth of July specials. Guests will enjoy al fresco dining opportunities, flickering fire-pits and a range of live music styles. One feels as if they are staying at an elegant Mediterranean villa in Italy or Spain while strolling through the architecturally stunning resort.

The old-world grandeur cost $270 million to build in 2007, offering 249 spacious guestrooms and suites with comfortable pillow-top beds dressed in luxury linens. The marble bathroom features a deep-soaking bathtub and walk-in shower.

Balconies and terraces overlook the resort’s manicured gardens, trickling fountains, tranquil adult-only swimming pool, lush golf course greens and the neighboring Los Peñasquitos Canyon preserve.

There is plenty of room on this expansive 400-acre property to hike or go horseback riding along 37 miles of nearby trails.

Golfers appreciate the 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed golf course with a cascading waterfall, practice areas, diverse bunkers and long fairways. There are also two pro-style tennis courts. Tennis and pickleball lessons can be arranged for those who seek to elevate their game.

The Fairmont Grand Del Mar has multiple heated pools and whirlpool spas. There is a family-friendly pool with shaded cabanas and a dedicated cabana server offering chilled mineral flat and sparkling water, seasonal fruit, a snack platter and gelato from Gelato Paradiso. Poolside cabanas start at $800.

On the weekends, family-friendly ‘Dine-In Movies’ are shown at 8 p.m.

The tranquil Relaxation Pool for adults only is near the Fairmont Spa. Swimming pools average in temperature of around 81 degrees and the large whirlpool spas are kept at 102 degrees. Sunscreen, swim goggles, arm floats and sunglasses are available for purchase.

Fairmont Spa & Wellness is designed to provide healing traditions and modern regenerative science at the award-winning facility. ASTECC-certified practitioners offer Dr. Vodder’s manual lymph drainage (MLD) and bio-chemical elements, including a 60 or 90 minute Jet Peel facial. This non-invasive treatment uses pressurized oxygen that resembles an Artic Blast delivering nutritive micro-droplets at subsonic speed to reach the dermal layers below the skin surface. Customized infusions address the appearance of fine lines, help restore firmness and boost radiance.

Other treatments include massages and holistic treatments that naturally interrupt negative stress patterns while restoring balance and homeostasis. There is a large indoor whirlpool, sauna and steam room, couples massage retreat, indoor and outdoor relaxation lounges, and access to the outdoor pool and heated whirlpool.

On the weekends from 12 to 4 p.m., guests can make reservations for Afternoon Tea in the large and beautifully decorated Lobby Lounge. Sip calming cups of chamomile or gain energy-sipping Darjeeling tea to enjoy with traditional tea scones, tiers of finger sandwiches and sweet bites. Add a flute of bubbly for an additional fee.

There are other dining venues at Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Starting with Addison, the only Southern California three-Michelin star restaurant with Chef William Bradley at the helm in the kitchen. Each menu item is a celebration of the regional ingredients prepared in a thoughtful and artistic presentation. The arched windows of the opulent dining room with soaring ceilings provide picturesque views. Guests splurge enjoying Bradley’s nine-course tasting menu with wine pairings from the wine cellar in the center of the restaurant. Sip rare Champagnes and discover wines from around the world.

Guests dining at Amaya Restaurant have a choice of multiple dining rooms. Sit by a flickering fire, or in a sumptuous large booth. Outside on the elegant dining terrace, one feels as if they are dining in Italy next to a bubbling fountain. Views of grand stairways and arched balconies add to the ambiance. The California-style bistro offers locally-sourced ingredients from the region’s best farms for farm-to-market and sea-to-table menu items. Dine during breakfast, weekend brunch and dinner.

Now throughout the summer, the front lawn of the hotel has three distinctive areas at Fairmont Grand Del Mar’s reimagined outdoor lounge. Grand Summer Social begins in the late afternoon offering apéritifs around fire-pits and culinary staff members busy at the outdoor wood-fired kitchen making an array of healthy and appetizing dishes. Order a wood-fired pizza and fire roasted Stonefruit salad or Baja chowder filled with sea bass, shrimp, potato, carrots and celery.

Nearby at the outdoor bar, mixologists skillfully craft individual and large-format cocktails. Order one-liter cocktails to share with two to six people. Some of the crafted cocktails include a Garden Gimlet with seasonal berries, Elderflower Punch, and Paloma made with tequila, grapefruit juice, sparkling water, lime juice and agave nectar. The bar also offers multiple wines and craft beers to enjoy

Reserve a personal VIP cabana with a private fire pit for $150. The upper area offers first-come, first-serve tables and chairs for guests to sit and purchase a la carte items. Down on the lower level seating reservations include a fire-pit table with chairs for $50.
