Beloved Taco Restaurant And MLB Pitcher Team Up To Support Rescue Dogs

Puesto, an award winning Mexican-American San Diego restaurant group and San Diego Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove have partnered to launch a taco inspired by Musgrove’s rescue dog from Tijuana. The collaboration combines the pitcher’s love for Mexican cuisine with his passion for giving back to the community.

Proceeds from sales of the special Tijuana-inspired taco, “Joe’s Adobada,” will benefit The Animal Pad, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs from high-risk situations and finding them loving homes. The foundation’s work aligns perfectly with Musgrove’s values, as he has been an advocate for animal rescue and adoption. Musgrove adopted his beloved dog, Theo, from the organization.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Puesto and their dedication to Mexican cuisine,” said Musgrove in a press release. “This partnership is a fantastic way to share my love for Tijuana’s food culture while supporting a cause that means a lot to me. The Animal Pad does incredible work rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need, and I’m thrilled that proceeds from our special taco will help them continue their mission.”

Joe’s Adobada taco, a delicious homage to the famed taco al pastor sold in stands and taquerias across Mexico, features marinated pork topped with piña crema, guacamole, pineapple, onion and cilantro, served in a house-made blue corn tortilla. It is gluten free and will sell for $10.

Specializing in tacos and margaritas, Puesto is a beloved San Diego institution owned by a family of first-generation Mexican-Americans, whose success has led them to open eight locations across California. The company also has a brewery at Puesto’s seventh location in the Mission Valley neighborhood of San Diego, specializing in Mexican style beers and available at all eight locations, and outposts at Levi’s Stadium and Petco Park.

“When Joe adopted Theo, we were over the moon that another one of our beloved puppies would be finding an amazing forever home, but we never could have imagined how impactful this specific match would be. Theo and Joe have helped open so many eyes and hearts to adoption,” said Lauren Botticelli, The Animal Pad’s executive director.

“Theo is proof that you can find your best friend and save a life at the same time. We are forever grateful to Joe for not only loving Theo, but for being an ambassador and supporter of The Animal Pad, always. We are beyond excited for this partnership. Tacos AND rescue dogs… does it get any better?!”

Joe’s Adobada taco will be available at all San Diego Puesto locations starting July 17th through October 2, 2024.
