Thousands Of Beer Lovers Clamor For Backyard Dive Bar In Online Contest

Food & Drink

More than 100,000 people are vying to get a backyard dive bar built in their backyard.

As Miller High Life closes out its dive bar giveaway contest today (September 22), 102,131 people have entered the sweepstakes, with many more consumers expected to enter by the end of the day. “In one week, we’ve received over 90,000 submissions,” says Lucy Bloxam, associate marketing manager for Miller High Life. “It goes to show how much people are missing their favorite dive bars, and we can’t wait to bring the dive bar to one lucky winner’s yard, High Life style.”

The contest, which was announced last week, will award one person a dive bar shed, which comes with: sticky floors, an actual bar with Miller High Life tap handles, quirky bar stools, a popcorn machine, a spot for a bouncer in case your neighbors try to crash your bar or overstay their welcome, plenty of wood paneling, very dim lighting, High Life artwork, doors that open completely to allow for patio season in case of unexpected warm temperatures during the winter, and enough beer to enjoy in your backyard for the rest of 2020.

The bar measures 12 feet by 10 feet. “With High Life’s Midwestern roots, we really wanted to build a space that resonated with our background: popcorn machine, a fish on the wall, fancy-ish stools, dim lighting, sticky floors—all the grit and charm of your neighborhood dive,” Bloxam says.

The contest itself is simple. If you’re 21 years or older, simply text “DIVEBAR” to 90464 or enter online at www.highlifedivebar.com. Full contest details can be found here. One lucky winner will be selected at random from among the more than 100,000 entries.

“This is just a text to enter sweepstakes, so no far-flung entries for this one,” Bloxam says. “That said, we’re sure our fans and all entrants have some fun things in mind as they hope to land the backyard dive bar. The winner will be contacted before delivery, ensuring they have room for the dive bar.”

The contest itself plays up the Miller High Life brand. “High Life has long been synonymous with dive bars, and it’s an approachable beer for anyone, in any setting,” says Bloxam. “While local watering holes and the pub down the street might still be closed, we wanted to replicate the experience with all the quirks of our favorite dives for consumers at home.”

The contest also highlights Miller High Life’s Midwestern, particularly Wisconsin, roots. “We wanted to have the look and feel of your classic dive bar, but with subtle Midwestern touches like the largemouth bass and wood paneling,” Bloxam says. “The bar also features Miller High Life art, tap handles and other subtle integrations in the design.”

The dive bar itself will either be transported via truck or airplane, depending on where the winner lives. “As far as delivery, we’ve got the logistics all figured out, whether on the ground or through the air,” Bloxam says.
