Many food producers launch new plant-based products to tie in with Veganuary, when consumers pledge to eat animal free for January. Thousands of new vegan food products are launched every year but being made from plants doesn’t necessarily guarantee something is healthy. From snacks and treats to spicy sauces, vegan ready meals and beverages, here are some of the healthiest and best new vegan product launches, all available nationwide.

1.Kookaloney, falafel kits

Levantine food specialist Kookaloney has launched a tasty new range of vegan meal kits created by Lebanese celebrity Master Chef Joe Barza. The falafel kit includes a falafel mix of fava beans, chickpeas, coriander, parsley, onion and garlic, flat breads, sauce, pickled turnips and a handy falafel mold. Add the dry hummus mix and fresh vegetables to create an impressive falafel feast. And the falafels can be baked rather than fried to keep them healthy.

2.80NoirUltra, hot chocolate

New brand 80Noir Ultra’s hot chocolate and bars are made from 79.3% dark chocolate and have already won several Great Taste Awards. Despite the high cocoa content, the products have no bitter taste and are surprisingly smooth and creamy tasting, especially the hot chocolate. The hot chocolate comes in small pellets which you add to hot water or a milk substitute like oatmilk. The premium chocolate has very little sugar and the products appeal to athletes as dark chocolate is said to improve fitness performance and wellbeing. A recent Runner’s World article mentions medical studies that show the beneficial effects of dark chocolate on exercise capacity.

3.OGGS ,brownie and millionaire bites

New OGGS Bites are sweet treats made with the UK’s first liquid egg alternative Aquafaba made from chickpeas. Following the success of their vegan cakes like Victoria sponge and lemon cakes, OGGs has just launched packages of nine mini chocolate brownies (58kcals per bites) or caramel and shortbread Millionaire Bites (66kcal per bite) are in each package. While the millionaire bites are tasty, they are a bit on the sweet side. The brownies, however, are moist, fudgy perfection.

4. HiP, oatmilk chocolate bars

New brand HiP (Happiness in Plants) has just launched a range of chocolate bars made from oatmilk and 41% single origin chocolate. The brainchild of James Cadbury (founder of mail order subscription service Love Cocoa), the bars offer a creamy oat-based alternative with 35% less sugar than traditional dairy milk chocolate. Launch flavors include Smooth & Creamy, Cookies & Cream, Salted Caramel and Salty Pretzel.

5.CHIN CHIN ice cream in the post vegan selection box

London ice cream brand rightly has a cult following for their delicious product created by pouring liquid nitrogen over the ingredients and then hand churning them. Packages of three 260ml tubs of CHIN CHIN’s ice cream are available by mail order nationwide and they’ve just launched three new vegan flavors: Coconut and Rose Jam, Pistachio and Smoked Salt and Mango Lassi.

6.Root Kitchen, ready meals

Chef prepared, plant based, frozen ready meal brand, Root Kitchen offers an excellent range of dishes for their launch this month. The initial range of this new direct-to-consumer brand features ten plant-based meals that cover cuisine from around the world, ranging from a meat free, Italian inspired Aubergine Al Forno to a delicious version of the nation’s favorite dish, Tofu Tikka Masala. The Thai red curry and Korean tofu noodles are among other appetising options. Ingredients are locally sourced and meals have a homemade look and feel, not your standard frozen ready meals by a long shot. And all meals are in recyclable packaging.

7.Chilli No 5, sauces

Chilli No. 5’s Kitchen Collection chilli sauce five-piece set is ideal for the hot sauce lover because these pack a punch. Marinade or use as a stir fry sauce. Another brand that emerged from the pandemic’s lockdown, Chilli No. 5 is the brainchild of Superyacht Chef Colin Ross and entrepreneur Rumble Romagnoli who says he “founded Chilli No. 5 because it was impossible to find high-quality, healthy hot sauces at the supermarket or even at restaurants. During the lockdown, people were cooking more at home and were discovering the challenge of recreating their favorite bold flavors. We created our sauces to elevate your plate.”

8.Orriss & Son, chilli sauces

Chef David Underwood, founder of Orriss & Son, cooked in some top kitchens in London and Melbourne, before settling back in his hometown of Cambridge in 2014 as co-owner of burger sensation Steak and Honour. During the national lockdown, David developed and refined an idea he had been working on for the past decade; hand-crafted, fermented chilli sauces made in small batches: plant based without any additives or preservatives. The result is a trio of fabulous hot sauces: Original Recipe Hot Sauce featuring habanero, tangy Piri-Piri Sauce and Jalapeno Nettle Sauce, each excellent as dressings or marinades.

9.Mandira’s Kitchen – Indian chutney

Award-winning producer of Indian frozen ready meals, Mandira’s Kitchen, has just launched two new vegan products: tomato and date chutney and gluten-free samosas. The chutney is delightfully moreish and excellent both as a dip or to accompany your favorite vegetables.

10.Dr Trouble, handmade sauces

Dr Trouble’s two new chilli sauces are 100% natural, vegan and gluten free. Oak Smoked Chilli (milder) and African Lemon Chilli (medium-hot), are hand produced in small batches by local villagers in Zimbabwe, with naturally grown lemons and chillies supplied by local communities. The sauces ferment in hot glass flagons for 100 days. Proceeds of sauces sold in the UK, go back to support the local communities with education and wildlife conservation initiatives. These unique hot sauces are also available in the United States.

11.Natural Ketosis , vegan ready meals

Natural Ketosis offers a variety of superb keto plans that cover all your meals for 14 days. The chocolate oat bar gives you a legitimate excuse to eat chocolate for breakfast as its healthy ingredients include oats, cocoa, dark chocolate, sunflower seeds and 9g of plant protein.

Ideal for vegans or for anyone trying to spice up their cooking, Spice Kitchen is a new spice subscription service founded by mother and son, Sanjay and Shashi Aggarwal. Every month subscribers receive a new letterbox size of spices. Spices are made fresh in small batches and stored in resealable packets. Each box includes all the spices needed for dozens of meals, plus a free recipe pamphlet. You just have to add your own fresh ingredients. Indie Bay’s new crunchy, crispy pretzels are 100% plant based, with 70% less fat and 100% more protein than regular potato chips. The pretzels, available in three flavors, barbeque, sour cream and onion and lightly salted, are oven baked and around 100 calories per bag. They are a tasty savory snack that you don’t have to feel guilty about eating, assuming you can stop at one bag.

16. In Bloom drops, aromatic waters
