The best hotels and ski chalets in Lech

Advice

The village of Lech is based around a central church and on either side fast flowing river. Originally the domain of farmers, it has expanded over the years, and those with deep pockets are well-catered for with three five-star superior hotels, as well as luxurious shopping emporiums, notably the long-standing and well-regarded family run Strolz ski shop, which has several branches in the area.

At the lower end of the hotel scale, it’s also possible to find comfortable and welcoming family-run options at affordable prices. Most of the accommodation is on the main road which runs through the resort, and in the Tannberg and Omesberg areas on the way to the outlying village of Zug.

The car-free satellite of Oberlech above the village, served by the 80-person Bergbahn cable car from the village, is almost into a resort in its own right, home to high-end hotels that to which luggage and catering supplies are delivered via a network of underground tunnels. Staying in these luxurious confines does not mean isolation however, since the cable car runs from 7am to 1am.

Haldenhof

A small hotel that’s been run for 47 years by the Schwärzler family, who have been deeply involved in developing Lech’s image into a top-flight international destination. Back in the Seventies, Hubert Schwärzler ran the tourist office while wife Isolde built up the business from b&b to a hotel with simple evening meals of gulaschsuppe and frankfurters. These days their son Michael and his wife Claudia have transformed the Haldenhof into a comfortable four-star with an excellent spa and a first class restaurant.
