After a four-year hiatus, Leinenkugel’s fans will finally get to enjoy this brand’s Sunset Wheat next week.
On August 15th, liquor store shelves will have this Belgian-style witbier stocked for a limited time. Not only that, but Leinenkugel’s is going to pay one sunset seeker a $10,000 to watch a sunset accompanied by the perfect pairing of a Sunset Wheat beer in hand.
Beer fans and sunset seekers have until Aug. 18 to apply for the gig, and they need to be at lest 25 years old, a U.S. resident, and they need to explain why they are the ultimate sunset drinker. One winner will receive $10,000 to watch a sunset with the cult brew, plus enjoy a Labor Day weekend getaway courtesy of the brand.
The promotion was inspired by fans who have been nagging the brand about returning Sunset Wheat. One diehard fan even created a change.org petition that was signed by more than 1,500 people. “Leinenkugel’s is always listening to our fans, and we do try to make their desires a reality,” says a brand spokeswoman. “And now, we’ve made that happen.”
To commemorate the beer returning to shelves for a limited time, the brand wanted to make it even more special, and what’s more special than watching a sunset with a Sunset Wheat, she says. The beer will stay on shelves through October.
But the Chippewa Falls, WI-based brand also wanted to accentuate the beauty of a Midwestern sunset. “Everyone knows about the beauty of a California or Florida sunset,” she says. “But we at Leinenkugel’s knows that Wisconsin is a best-kept secret for gorgeous sunsets, especially when they’re enjoyed with a beer in hand.”
Thus the “sunset seeker” promotion was developed. Aspiring “sunset streamers” can apply by following and tagging Leinenkugel’s on Instagram and posting a video explaining why they are the ultimate fan of the Wisconsin sunset and Sunset Wheat with the hashtags #sunsetstreamer and #contest. For a valid submission, Leinie’s must be tagged on Instagram, and applicants must post a video explaining what makes them qualified to bring the Wisconsin sunset to “live” with the hashtag #sunsetstreamer and #contest.
The “sunset stream” will happen over Labor Day weekend, which is, of course, the unofficial sunset of summer. The winning sunset streamer will get to stay at a Wisconsin cabin over the weekend, ready to sit at the back on the dock wit ha crisp Sunset Wheat in hand. “No need to narrate – the sunset speaks for itself,” she says, adding that Leinie’s team will handle all the technical aspects of the stream.
And the winner also gets his or her own stash of Sunset Wheat after their streaming duties are accomplished.
