In Mercedes, Argentina we learned how a team of 24 bakers make the world’s largest torta frita. Round, flat, and fried, torta frita is typically eaten as an afternoon snack and enjoyed with a warm cup of yerba mate. In 2022, Mercedes’ Fried Cake Festival drew a crowd of 20,000 people to see and eat the 5-meter-wide torta frita, which was so large it had to be lifted by a crane.
