Where To Enjoy Hanukkah Treats In New York City

‘Tis the season for fried foods. Especially if you’re celebrating Hanukkah. The Jewish Festival of Lights kicks off on December 25, and New York City restaurants in the height of holiday season are ready to celebrate with traditional latkes, sufganiyot and more Hanukkah treats.

Sufganiyot and Latkes for Hanukkah in New York

Mijo

Mijo, a Mexican restaurant inside Pier 57’s food hall, Market 57, will offer latkes and a variety of sufganiyot for pickup and delivery in NYC (available for pre-order 48 hours in advance). The Hanukkah specials includel latkes with a choice of labneh, serrano chili labneh or homemade applesauce (half dozen $20; dozen $36) and sufganiyot with assortment of fillings, including housemade strawberry or raspberry, plus (half dozen $22; dozen $40).

Dagon

Sit down on the Upper West Side for Dagon’s Hanukkah specials. The menu includes an appetizer of Potato Latkes with a choice of three ($27) or six ($47) toppings such as horseradish yogurt, smoked salmon, silan-ginger applesauce, lamb ragu, sweet and sour harissa sauce, tahina/amba, or schug. Grilled Brook Trout ($38) served with creamy celery root, baby spinach, preserved lemon beurre blanc is the main course, and classic Sufganiyot ($18) with chocolate, pistachio and halva custard flavors is the dessert. For drinks, choose from a Laird’s Hot Cider cocktail($17) made with apple brandy, spiced New York Cider, and a cinnamon stick; or a glass of Pinot Noir Bourgogne Côte d’Or ($20).

Barbounia

Celebrate the Hanukkah with Chef Amitzur Mor’s special week-long a la cart Hanukkah menu on Park Avenue South. Enjoy Jerusalem Artichoke Soup ($17) with black truffle-labaneh mousseline and Judean Hills olive oil; Kugel Yerusalmi ($24) with smoked salmon, labaneh, pickled cucumbers, herb salad, and trout roe; Grilled Hudson Valley Duck Hearts ($24) with fire-roasted “mashwiya,” amba, toasted pine nuts, sumac, and tahini are the appetizer offerings. Main courses include Taboon Roasted Red Snapper Tajin ($44) with braised Swiss chard, fire-roasted peppers, tomatoes, chickpeas, cilantro, and queen olives; and Slow-cooked Lamb Neck “Ossobuco” ($43) with braised freekeh, pearl onions, tomato confit, mint, pine nuts and almonds. No holiday meal is complete without dessert and Chef Mor offers traditional homemade Homemade Sufganiyot ($24) with halva and chocolate.

Breads Bakery

Head to New York’s babka headquarters for their annual Hanukkah specials. This year, fluffy sufganiyot are available in strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and pistachio flavors, 1 for $3.95 or 12 for $39. Potato latkes are also made in-house and served with sour cream and homemade applesauce, 1 for $3, 6 for $16 or 12 for $30. Breads Bakery will be closed on December 25 except for Hanukkah pre-order pickup in Union Square and Upper East Side.

GERTIE

All Hanukkah long, Williamsburg’s GERTIE will be offering catering boxes including latkes, sufganiyot, blue and white cookies, dreidels, and gelt, with the option to add smoked fish at $58 per box to serve four. For those looking to dine out during the holiday, GERTIE will be offering rotating in-house latke bar and drink specials, announced via Instagram. A limited-time only latke, egg and cheese sandwich. is also on the menu.

Sungold

Head to Williamsburg this Hanukkah, where Chef Michael King – known for his creative use of seasonal ingredients and sustainable cuisine – presents his Celery Root Latke, a reimagining of tradition that pairs crispy, golden celery root latkes with pear butter, horseradish and a generous sprinkling of chives. The dish is $15 and can be paired with a warm winter cocktail menu including Maple Bourbon Coffee, whiskey spiked chamomile tea, and the Sugar & Spice, made with apples, pear, guava, cinnamon, hibiscus, cloves, sugarcane, demerara, with your choice of spirit.

Kith Treats

The hypey dessert shop is teaming up with nearby Doughnut Plant with a limited edition special inspired by the sufganiyot, Hanukkah’s traditional deep-fried jelly doughnut. The Jelly Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwich features Kith Treats’ signature vanilla ice cream infused with Frosted Flakes, Toffee Crunch and strawberries, sandwiched between a Doughnut Plant yeast doughnut lined with strawberry jam, and topped with powdered sugar and fresh strawberry preserves in the shape of the letter “K.”

Motel Morris

This family-owned restaurant in Chelsea, will add to its menu of seasonal New American cuisine from December 26 through the last night of Hanukkah by offering latkes with pastrami-cured salmon, house made apple sauce, and sour cream.

Daily Provisions

The fast casual cafe and bakery will be offering Sufganiyot Crullers, filled with strawberry jam and rolled in lemon sugar for Hanyukkah. The crullers are available for catering pre-order in quantities of 6 for $45 or 12 for $90 starting on December 10 and will remain available from through January 2.
