I can’t believe I’m in Damascus, Syria!! Today we’re going on an ultimate Syrian street food tour in Damascus – let’s see what types of amazing food we can try!

► Huge thank you to Rami, from Syrian Guides (https://syrianguides.com/), he arranged my entire trip to Syria. Get in touch with him for an amazing tour in Syria!

Al-Haytham Restaurant – As soon as I arrived in Damascus, Rami and I went straight to eat one of the ultimate of all meals – hummus and fateh, and this place is local and does it so well. Total price: 48,000 SYP ($3.20) for everything

Al-Burj Shawarma – Syria has some of the best shawarma that I’ve ever had anywhere in the world – and they do it in a unique way by dipping the bread in the juicy oils and touching it on the hot griddle to enhance the flavor. Price – Chicken 25,000 SYP ($1.66), Lamb 35,000 SYP ($$2.33)

To continue with this Syrian street food tour in Damascus, we continued with some old town street food including corn sliced and seasoning, an amazing old bakery that cooked a triangle of dough filled with muhammara!

Arbasheh Falafel – To continue this Syrian food tour we then had a falafel sandwich, and just like Syrian shawarma, they might make the best falafel in the world. I’ve never seen so many vegetables and toppings on any falafel – it’s truly amazing! Price – 10,000 SYP ($0.66)

Kibbeh – Kibbeh is one of the national foods of Syria, and this street stall specializes in bulgur stuffed with lamb, and grilled or boiled.

Al-Mahabba Restaurant – One of the ultimate Syrian meals you have to try is a mixture of stuffed intestines and organs, along with pickled. This restaurant was hilarious and delicious! Total price – 300,000 SYP ($20)

Alzwwaq Chicken – Just like shawarma and falafel, there’s nothing quite like Syrian roast chicken – it’s on another level! They roasted the chicken and then sliced it into a sandwich, with garlic sauce and pickles, and roasted the bread in the chicken fat juices – absolutely amazing – and something you have to try when you’re in Damascus, Syria! Price – 65,000 SYP ($4.33) for half chicken

We had an amazing and ultimate day eating Syrian street food in Damascus – seriously a food paradise!

GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA – Welcome to Guatemala City, Central America, and today we’ll be going on an ultimate Guatemalan street food tour – eating some of the best food in the entire city!

Mercado Central, Guatemala City – We’re starting this street food tour at Mercado Central (Central Market) to check out all the amazing produce and especially avocados as this bustling colorful market in the center of the city. The avocados were delicious and the fresh fruits were amazing. We ate some delicious Guatemalan antojitos as Refacciones Doña Mela, Guatemala City and some adobada and beef soup at Comedor Angelica, Guatemala City.

Cevicheria Los Chavos, Guatemala City (https://goo.gl/maps/nHTcpFTNXuXiDbdJA) – After some sightseeing about Guatemala City, we then headed to Cevicheria Los Chavos for a unique Guatemala City style ceviche made with some surprising ingredients – like worcestershire sauce and ketchup!

Hot Dogs Ejecutivos el Chino, Guatemala City – Now we’re moving on to the the most famous Guatemalan street food – the shucos or Guatemalan crazy hot dogs literally! This is one of the places that started it all – everything is grilled over fire and there about a dozen meats and toppings that go on. It’s a huge celebration of a hot dog all in one bun, everything chopped and layered perfectly. It was very tasty, and I especially loved the layers of guacamole avocado.

Shucos Campo Marte – Finally another Guatemala City street food gem is Shucos Campo Marte where there’s half a dozen stalls are serving roadside shucos and the trans-metro – a huge bus sized hot dog!

Big thank you to Pablo Matute from Etnica Travel (https://www.etnicatravel.com/) for arranging my trip to Guatemala.

As their young daughter becomes the target of a relentless demonic force, horrifying night terrors, unexplained attacks, and sinister encounters push the family to the breaking point.
Can the spirit of Chris’s grandmother save them before it’s too late… or will the demon claim its next victim?

PORTUGAL – This is the official list of the 7 best Portuguese foods – these are the best foods you don’t want to miss eating when you’re in Portugal! No, whenever there’s a list, there’s bound to be some controversy, and many will say that certain dishes should have been on this list… but it was voted on by locals and this is the official list of food!

I traveled around Portugal to eat these 7 best Portuguese foods!

1. Sardinha Assada – Grilled Sardines
A Merendinha do Arco Bandeira, Lisbon, Portugal (https://maps.app.goo.gl/pvQvpCTH81Zn9geZ8) – Located right in the heart of Lisbon, this restaurant serves authentic and classic Portuguese foods. I came here specifically to try their grilled sardines. Now, just to let you know, unfortunately I wasn’t in Portugal during sardines season, and if you are, you’d find fresh sardines everywhere. But they were still good and this restaurant is a great place to try local Portuguese food.

2. Queijo Serra da Estrela – Portuguese soft sheep cheese
Manteigaria Silva, Time Out Market Lisboa (https://maps.app.goo.gl/AhsJgsfDgtCXe2iv7) – Famous for their cured meats and cheese, we next tried the legendary Queijo Serra da Estrela, a Portuguese sheep cheese from the mountains nearby Lisbon.

3. Caldo Verde – Green Soup
A Merendeira, Lisbon, Portugal (https://maps.app.goo.gl/dhkHRJZvF4qKTCiM7) – Next up on this list of best Portuguese food, we’re eating caldo verde, and comforting Portuguese green soup made with kale and a potato pureed broth. It’s one of the most comforting and easy to eat dishes in Portugal.

4. Alheira de Mirandela – Bread and Meat Sausage
Solar Moinho de Vento, Porto, Portugal (https://maps.app.goo.gl/oFb9L1C5BSN4dTLU7) – In Porto, the next dish on this list is Alheira de Mirandela, a bread and meat sausage that’s unlike any other sausage I’ve ever had.

5. Leitão da Bairrada – Roast Suckling Pig
Nova Casa Dos Leitões, Aguim, Portugal (https://maps.app.goo.gl/oZkfY42uWnXfXzBL9) – Few foods in all of Portugal are more loved than Portuguese roast suckling pig. And to eat the best suckling pig you need to go to Mealhada!

6. Arroz de Marisco – Seafood Rice
O Jorge do Peixe, Quarteira, Portugal (https://maps.app.goo.gl/EqXjgrhhM9JpSkEu8) – Now we’re heading to the south of Portugal, seafood heaven. And one of the best Portuguese foods is arroz de marisco, seafood rice.

7. Pastel de Belém
Manteigaria, Lisbon, Portugal (https://maps.app.goo.gl/rHQep5y49TtK2n62A) – Probably the most famous of all Portuguese sweets is the egg tart, and the original is made in Belem, near to Lisbon. However, Manteigaria is another place that makes them well and has many loyal customers. 8 years ago when I went to the original in Belem: https://youtu.be/yNEGYdZIsbo?si=LVo-flZUurrgqeu7&t=74

That wraps up this list of 7 best Portuguese foods, don’t miss eating them when you’re in Portugal!

You don’t have to spend your whole trip in museums to understand the culture of a country. Some of the best cultural lessons happen in everyday moments: sitting in a café, grocery shopping, riding public transportation, watching families interact, visiting local markets, or simply paying attention to how people live their daily lives.

In this video, we talk about the real ways travelers can learn about a destination’s culture beyond famous museums and tourist attractions. From food traditions and local etiquette to sports, music, public spaces, humor, and everyday routines, these experiences often teach you more about a country than a guidebook ever could.

We cover:

Learning culture through food and restaurants
Watching daily life and local routines
Visiting markets and grocery stores
Public transportation observations
Sports, music, and entertainment culture
Understanding local etiquette and manners
Neighborhood walks beyond tourist centers
Talking with locals respectfully
Festivals, cafés, and people watching
Why slowing down helps you understand a place better

Travel becomes a lot more meaningful when you stop just checking sights off a list and start paying attention to how people actually live.

Whether you’re visiting Europe, exploring Japan, backpacking through Mexico, or road tripping across the United States, these simple experiences can help you better understand the people and culture around you.
